乐播传媒 student Alexandra Martin to serve at state level
乐播传媒 is excited to announce that Business Administration student Alexandra Martin has been selected to serve as the student regent for the KCTCS Board of Regents.
Born and raised in Romania, Martin moved to Maysville with her husband, who she met while he was travelling for work with his job at International Paper.
鈥淲e are very happy to be in Maysville. It is an amazing place,鈥 she said.
Martin enrolled in the business program in the spring of 2022 and is set to graduate next year.
鈥淎spiring to complete my bachelor鈥檚 degree, I initially hesitated due to the language barrier I encountered when I first arrived in the US,鈥 she said. 鈥淭he fear of not being able to keep up with the information or being understood made me hesitant from pursuing my education. However, my anxieties were relieved during my first visit to 乐播传媒 where the staff showed exceptional kindness and patience, going above and beyond to support me.鈥
After graduating, she plans to transfer to the University of Kentucky to earn her bachelor鈥檚 degree in business administration.
鈥淚 also am pursuing internships that will provide me with opportunities to leverage my new academic knowledge in a professional setting, making my education even more relevant and preparing me for future career success,鈥 Martin said.
She said being selected as the student regent is an honor and a humbling opportunity.
鈥淚t allows me to give back to the organization that supported me by representing our students and community college,鈥 Martin said. 鈥淚 hope to offer a unique perspective as someone who is following a non-traditional path pursing education. Through my experiences, I can provide valuable insights on what works and what is needed to assist others in similar situations.鈥
Martin鈥檚 faculty advisor, Tara Thornberry says that Martin will be a positive representative of her peers.
鈥淎lexandra has been a joy to have in class and to work with as an advisee,鈥 said Thornberry. 鈥淗er international experiences have enriched classroom discussions and her strong work ethic is an example to other students. I am certainly proud of Alexandra for her accomplishments, including her selection as Student Regent for the KCTCS Board of Regents.鈥
Martin will serve as a student regent for one year, alongside Layah Hodges, a Jefferson Community and Technical College student.
Brianna Whitten, English professor at 乐播传媒, also serves on the Board of Regents as a general education faculty regent. She also serves as the board鈥檚 secretary.
Whitten鈥檚 three-year term is set to end in October 2024.
