Megan Lewis has worked in a kitchen since she was fifteen years old.
Now, ten years later, the Rowan County native has her own business, a food truck where she serves wood-fired pizza.
Established last year, Megās Culinary Kitchen has quickly become a Morehead staple.
Lewis graduated from Maysville Community & Technical Collegeās culinary arts program in the spring of 2022 and said that the program is what made it possible for her to chase her dream.
Chef Patrick Zemba, program coordinator of ĄÖ²„“«Ć½ās Culinary Arts program says he is proud of Megan and all her accomplishments.
āDuring Meganās pursuit of Culinary Arts here at ĄÖ²„“«Ć½, she was a great student. Along with personal goals, she was driven by her professional goal of opening a business in her hometown,ā he said. āShe encompassed great attributes which led to her achievement. We continue to support her, as she will always be part of the Culinary Arts and ĄÖ²„“«Ć½ family.ā
ĄÖ²„“«Ć½ās culinary arts program is designed to prepare students for careers in the culinary arts, food and beverage management, restaurant management, catering, institutional food service, and as professional chefs.
Culinary arts students train at the Maysville Institute of Culinary Arts, located in downtown Maysville.
Lewis said she visited the culinary arts program multiple times before making the decision to enroll.
āIāve always loved cooking and everything about food interested me,ā said Lewis. āI had teachers and peers who took me to visit and it wasnāt until my bosses and mentors at the time really pushed me to go to culinary school that I decided to take the leap.ā
She said those former employers taught her everything she needed to know about her food truck, as they also had a wood-fired pizza truck.
āItās mind-blowing having my own business and my own name as the staple of it all. As much fun as it is, itās also a lot of hard work,ā she said. āIām used to the food part and being in the back of the kitchen so the business part is new but itās what I signed up and I wouldnāt change a thing.ā
